San Diego BayFair Race Recap – Rounds 9 & 10
by Rachel Cummings
On September 13 and 14 the San Diego Bayfair World Series Powerboat Racing, brought by the Hot Products Best of the West Racing Series, hosted Rounds 9 and 10 and it felt like a true home race for ACE x Performance.
We often train, test, and tune at Fiesta Island Mission Bay, so racing just across the water felt special. This time, pits were set up at Crown Point, giving us a fresh perspective of the island. The venue had it all: soft sand, mild temps, grassy areas, backdrops of SeaWorld and massive powerboats, and even the luxury of pulling vehicles right up to the pits. We're grateful to the City of San Diego and the great organizers and friends who put together a successful event.

Team Results
Our riders showed up strong across multiple vintage classes, from 550s to X2s, with some exciting battles all weekend long.
Vintage 550 Limited
Riders battled it out in this class on a long and rough track, which led to a shakeup in some of the results. This class will have its debut at the IJSBA World Finals in October.
Saturday, Round 9: Luke Christie 1-1 for the overall.
Sunday, Round 10: Cole Schattinger 2-1 for the overall.
Vintage 650/750 Open/Mod (combined with 550 Limited for fuller lines – 11 racers total, scored separately)
Rachel Cummings (on her 550 Mod) grabbed four straight holeshots and swept the class with 1-1-1-1 finishes, taking both overalls for the weekend.
Vintage 550 Mod
Although a smaller turnout this weekend, there was no shortage of exciting moments between the top four racers in this class. ACExPerformance riders Ron Kerkes, Nick Scholten, Andrew Cecere, and Rachel Cummings hashed out some fierce holeshot drag races and threw down some buoy-to-buoy square ups on some of the fastest 550s in the world.
Andrew Cecere dominated with a 1-1-1-1 sweep.
Nick Scholten pushed hard all weekend with consistent 2-2-2-2 results.
Ron Kerkes threw down solid laps with a 4th overall.
Rachel Cummings held her own against the guys, made some passes with a 5th overall.
X2 Mod
Dylan Waters and Trevor Waters battled each other all weekend, each securing an overall in separate rounds.
Saturday, Round 9: Dylan Waters 1-1 for the overall.
Sunday, Round 10: Trevor Waters 2-1 for the overall.
New Rider Spotlight
A first-time racer hit the line this weekend: Alan Deguire riding his ACEx built Yamaha Superjet. He just missed out on the podium due to a minor track infraction, but showed solid track speed, had clean motos, and no mechanical issues. A huge success for a debut on a full line of 11 skis. Hoping to have Alan back at another race in the future and we're stoked to support him.
