2025 Catalina Ski Race Recap
Liquid A$$et Secures Back-to-Back Masters Class Wins
On Saturday, July 26, the 2025 Catalina Ski Race launched from Long Beach at 9:00 AM sharp. Engines roared across the harbor as the countdown hit zero, sending a fleet of world-class race boats toward Catalina Island and back — a 62-mile test of speed, stamina, and teamwork.
Among the elite competitors was Liquid A$$et, a 32-foot Schiada owned and backed by DECOMA Industries. At the helm stood John Notaro, DECOMA’s CEO. On throttles and navigation was multi-time Jet Ski World Champion Andrew Cecere, owner of ACE x Performance. Rounding out the crew: Brian Vesely served as observer, while the true star of the team, John Clements, showcased his skills water skiing in the Masters Class.
Race Recap & Results
In 2024, Liquid A$$et — with Notaro, Cecere, Clements, and Patrick Slark — clinched the Masters Class win and finished 18th overall with a time of 1:09:22.68.
In 2025, they came back even stronger:
Beneath a thick morning marine layer and cool mid-60s temps, the race kicked off in Long Beach, California with a countdown. Liquid A$$et had an uncoordinated start — a brief, unintentional hesitation that let the pack surge ahead and bunch up early. But once the team found their rhythm, they powered through the chaos and carved out a top-5 position by the breakwall. From there, they held a blistering pace across the channel.
Fans followed the action in real time, thanks to livestream coverage, GPS tracking, and drone footage on YouTube — keeping the excitement dialed in from start to finish.

By 10:00 AM, the Queen Mary sounded its horn to mark one hour into the race. Liquid A$$et was closing in fast on their way back to Long Beach from Catalina Island.
As they crossed the finish line, the clouds parted to reveal a picture-perfect SoCal sky. The team clocked in at 1:08:20.30 — taking 8th overall and once again claiming first in the Masters Class.
With a total race distance of 62 miles, Liquid A$$et averaged an impressive 54.4 mph over open ocean from Long Beach to Catalina and back — a true testament to the team’s speed, chemistry under pressure, and Clements’ world-class skiing.
